Tennyson Middle & Parkdale Elementary

Renew Church Waco’s ministry involvement in our neighborhood schools of Tennyson Middle School and Parkdale Elementary are primarily through five outreach programs.

Tennyson Middle School Mentoring Program: The mentoring program at Tennyson is formed around a Focus class which the student attends twice a month.  This class addresses life issues appropriate to the student in context of age and gender, relevant to the times of today.  The mentor meets with the student for 30 minutes, twice a month, during the weeks in-between the student’s Focus class.  The mentor’s role is to come alongside the student to assist them as they explore and digest the topics discussed in their Focus class.  The mentor’s primary goal is to love, listen, and serve as a soundboard of reason.

Tennyson Middle School Partners On Duty (POD): The POD program consists of volunteers who are willing to serve for 30 minutes during the lunch period.  The mere presence of the POD during the lunch hour has been shown to be beneficial in contributing to a stable environment.

Parkdale Elementary School Mentoring Program: The mentoring program at Parkdale Elementary School follows the same format as at Tennyson Middle School, although this program is limited to 5th grade students.

Parkdale STARS Reading Program: The reading program is offered to 2nd through 4th grade students.  Volunteers spend 30 minutes each week with the same student, or small group of students, following the STARS program format.  STARS provides the necessary training for volunteers and coordinates with the school staff to achieve the desired learning objectives.

Tennyson/Parkdale Staff Support: Both schools have volunteers focused on serving and praying for the teachers and staff through meals, occasional treats, etc.
